Why did we create Tracker?
We created Tracker after working on a few projects using email as the primary means of communication. We found that, for a given project, there are typically multiple tasks that need to be completed. And for each of those tasks, there may be a unique number of people that should be "kept in the loop" on the progress of a given task. It became extremely difficult to remember which people needed to be CC'd on one email string vs. another. As a result, keeping each task in each project in order became exceedingly difficult.
We created Tracker to help solve this problem. Tracker allows us to create a line of communication for each individual task in a given project. Here are the advantages of using Tracker over email:
- All communication regarding a given task is posted to Tracker and hence can be found in one place. No need to dig through old emails to find correspondence on a given task. Just go to that task's page on Tracker.
- Multiple users can "subscribe" to a given task. Any number of developers, designers, managers and clients can "subscribe" to a given task. No need to remember to "reply to all" and no need to remember the names of everyone that should be CC'd on a given task.
- Tracker provides email notification of task updates automatically. All task subscribers are automatically notified of new activity in a given task. No need to remember to send status updates via email to all involved. Just post in Tracker and let Tracker take care of the rest.
